Gender Advisor - Consultant

International Alert is an independent peace building organisation working in over twenty countries and territories around the world. We work with people affected by violent conflict Internationally as well as at government, EU and UN levels to shape both their policy and practice in building sustainable peace. Our regional work is based Understanding conflict. Building peace in the African Great Lakes, West Africa, the Caucasus, Colombia, Sri Lanka, Nepal and the Philippines. The issues we work on include business, humanitarian aid and development, gender, security and post-conflict reconstruction. International Alert has been working in Nepal in support of peace since 2001.

Alert-Nepal is seeking exceptional candidates for the following positions:

Gender Advisor- Consultant

National and international applicants are welcome - Salary based on experience and aptitude.

Initially a two-month (extendable) contract, this position will help support the mainstreaming of participatory, gender-sensitive methodology into the analytical work of Alert's staff and partners, with specific reference to the assessment phase of a civil society, security and justice project, starting February 2009. You will train staff/partners on PRA research techniques; input into the design of a district assessment and training needs assessment methodology to ensure gender sensitivity, and support the piloting of that methodology.
